Water

David Hockney

Water is David Hockney's original poster design for the exhibition "Hockney and Water" held at the Maritime Center in Norwalk, Connecticut (now the Maritime Aquarium) in 1989. The previous owner of the painting, John B. Hightower, was Executive Director of the New York State Arts Council from 1964-70. He was also a Director of the Museum of Modern Art, President of the South Street Seaport Museum, Director of the Mariners' Museum and of Norwalk Maritime Center. Mr. Hightower was the director of the Norwalk Maritime Center when the exhibition "Hockney and Water" was mounted.

Never framed and thought lost, this painting was found amongst Hightower's effects and was rediscovered in a small Boston auction last year. The authenticity of the painting has been confirmed by David Hockney.
