William Scott

This drawing of a Still Life with Table and Pans by William Scott is from a collection of two sketchbooks and a few loose drawings by the artist, which are recorded in the William Scott Foundation Archive no. 1777. Following a failed effort to sell the archive in its entirety to the Tate Gallery the collection was sold at public auction in 2001, where it was purchased by Archeus, thereby preventing the collection from being lost to the underbidder, an overseas collector. The subsequent exhibition at Archeus of over 50 works on paper allowed collectors in Britain and Ireland to purchase rare individual works by William Scott from the 1950s and early 1960s which would otherwise have been unaffordable to them.

Photographs of the complete sketchbooks exist, and are available for study upon request.
