Jonas Wood
Jonas Wood is an American painter and printmaker, living and working in Los Angeles, California.
Wood exercises a very unique and identifiable line. His works have a complex flatness, rendered without modelling in mostly undisturbed areas of flat colour. Perspective is slight, shadow rarely used, the effect is a deceptively simple visual language which has an easy and contemporary aesthetic.
Working mainly from photographs and collages Wood's image building, and sense of colour and pattern, has been compared to Hockney and Matisse. At the age of little more than 40, his work is held in many great collections including MoMA and the Whitney Museum.
