Naked Man on a Bed

Lucian Freud

The uncompromising pose and flamboyant presentation of the male nude in Naked Man on a Bed may shock upon first viewing but, on closer examination, in particular of the tender, almost doting, rendering of the face, we see almost as much of the human exchange between the artist and his subject as we do in more obviously affectionate works such as The Artist’s Mother.
