Dancers

Fernando Botero

The Dancers first appeared as characters in Botero's work in the 1980s, in his drawings and in paintings. By 1990, however, he began creating a sculpture of the motif, monumental casts of which were then placed in Park Avenue, New York and Champs d'Elysees to popular acclaim. Four further versions of The Dancers, each with variations of movement and posture, were cast in 2000, 2003, 2007 and this present version in 2012. No further variants have been cast and it is highly unlikely that any more will be..

Each edition was produced in three different heights (a small table top size, a medium size approx. 130cm high and a monumental size approx. 3 metres high), with each size in different editions: 6, 6 and 3 respectively. Unique versions have also been commissioned in marble.
