Model for 'Terminal'

Richard Serra

Richard Serra's fully realised sculpture Terminal stands in front of the main railway station (Hbf) in Bochum, Germany. It was originally shown at documenta 6 in Kassel.

Made of four trapezoidal plates of weathering (Cor-Ten) steel, each standing 41 feet by 12 feet, leaning together to form an open, towering, and intimidating vertical shaft. Like much of Richard Serra's work, it alters the physical and spatial experience of the public plaza, engaging directly with weight, gravity, and human scale

Model for Terminal is a rare scale working model for the Bochum sculpture and is one of the few domestic-scale works by the artist in existence.
