Sarah Seated

Julian Dyson

In the early 70s, many of Dyson's studied drawings clearly show the influence of David Hockney. This is especially so in this portrait of Sarah seated of 1972. Hockney's Portrait of the Artist's Mother, Mrs Laura Hockney, Bradford of the same year, in the Tate Gallery, shows how much Dyson was impressed by, and absorbed of, Hockney's line.
